Gremlin Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Its an Hitachi Deskstar 4tb and its on sale at Fry's this weekend for $99.. http://www.frys.com/product/6943757 Just curious to know if it is worth it?
El_Capitan Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Maybe. I think I did a search for 4 TB drives for my NAS/video editing server, and I ended up getting 8 WD Reds, each for $89.99. They were all good upon arrival, and still going strong to this day.
Waco Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 4 TB for $99 is a pretty good deal IMO.

El_Capitan Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 I would buy it and try it. At worst, it fails and you have to RMA until you get a good one.
AkakmanH Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Note about Fry's: Fry's is very good about returning defective or poorly performing electronics. Their normal return with no questions asked is 90 days but they very often extend that timeline if you complain loudly enough. On another note - for a number of years Deskstars were used exclusively in Dell Inspiron laptops. Doesn't mean that they are that great. Just means that Dell got one hell of a good deal on a bulk purchase. Me personally - I would prefer a WD Black, but, it would cost you about $90 more. Waco Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 I have a few hundred Deskstars at work in a very unfriendly environment/workload. They're pretty decent IMO.
