$1000 Gaming budget!?!?

I'm looking to build my 1st PC. I would like 1080p gaming at above average FPS. Main genres I play are Sports, Racing & RPGs. Majority of the budget can go to the Motherboard/CPU/GPU portion of the build. A full array of connectivity options[wired/wireless] wanted. Audiophile level sound would be awesome. I always liked those Thermaltake cases too, Level 10 & Chaser MK, gotta have one of those. I would imagine I'm over the budget with my requests, so perhaps another $200-300 could be added to it.

So -- tell us a little more about what you plan to play and what you have. What games (specifics can help sometimes), what resolution is your monitor, you said you want audio -- so that helps.

 

I'm sure we can put together a nice build for that budget.

Much appreciated. Little back story 1st, bear with me. Used to be a console Gamer, installed a GPU to experiment with PC gaming.....MIND BLOWN!!! Always been a computer geek, couldn't believe what I'd been missing. Only intended to play some NBA 2K, but I was so amazed, I was installing any and every genre just to test out the GPU. From my ongoing research, I'm liking the 5820K 6 core, MSI X Power/Gamer 9, GTX 980ti. Not strictly a gaming machine, some high level processing needed also. Decent build, but I'm sure you could find a mb that would do the job at a much better price, and knock a few hundred off the final hit. Then again, we don't know what options you want in a mb.

Ok a couple things on your build

 

As was mentioned you could scale back on the motherboard to fix some other holes in the system. 

 

As good as Noctua's parts are the NH-D9L is not going to stand up to cooling that chip under load. An NH-D15 would be the smallest air cooler I would use. 

 

On your memory you will need to go with a 4x4GB quad channel kit instead of a 2x8GB kit.

 

The optical drive you can get from Microcenter or Newegg for less than half that price.

@ Frank, the optical drive he choose is a blue ray, so I think that's a pretty good price.

I chose a MB with WiFi & Bluetooth, but would it be better to use a separate card that? I was looking at the MSI X99a Gaming 7 originally, but no WiFi/BT module, although it does have USB 3.1.

That Noctua cooler had the best fan speed/decibel ratio that I had seen

The memory was chosen because I thought I was saving slots on the MB, but what do I know!!?

The optical drive is not super important, who uses discs anymore anyway, but I know the importance of having one when you do NEED it. The price seemed reasonable for a Blu Ray drive too
