dr_bowtie Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Care to share more about the details of it? Are you running them PC based and if so how? as in like hooking them up to the PC and such? I could easily grab 3 or 4 cameras and dedicate a PC just for this.....
road-runner Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 (edited) Sure, I am using PC i7 980x X58 with a couple 2gb drives one for stored videos old ones and one for newer video to record to win 7 64 bit. I am using a netgear router like everyone uses, I was using linksys to many have died so trying netgear out so far so good. Depending on the cameras you get some need 110v nearby to plug in the power adapter. I like the POE cams as the hikvision is and my samsungs, everything in one cat cable. Just grab a 8 ports switch for about $50 it will power 4 POE and 4 regular ports. http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-8-Port-100Mbps-Switch-TPE-S44/dp/B000QYEN1W If you know a little about networking set them up static IP assign ports and forward them in the router if you gonna share outside the network to phone or what ever. Blue Iris has an app for phones and there is another I use called IP Cam Viewer by Robert Chou on google play that works well. http://blueirissoftware.com/mobile/ Blue Iris is my PC Software http://blueirissoftware.com/ I think the cams come with some software most do but it will only work with that camera unless you want to redo the software. Blue Iris works with lots of camaras Some people like the system you by I have never tried one. I think there pretty much plug and play and probably easier to set up... Boinker Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 I think what roadrunner mentioned was 2 terabyte drives. But don't skimp out on the lighting. Crooks can't stand a well-lit area and it will make things less vulnerable.

With 3 or 4 cams you wouldnt need to much space 500gb to a TB one drive would do.. Edited September 26, 2015 by road-runner
