thc_ltd Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 I own a P4 2.8 Ghz cpu and Im in the market to upgrade almost all the parts of my system. My question is am I better off with what I have now or would a Athlon XP 2500+ overclocked to a 3200+? I really wanted either the Athlon 64 or P4 2.4C but I dont have the money for either of those along with a new mobo and all the other stuff i want so there both out of the question. I know I could probably get 3.0 Ghz out of my P4 at the least and still be stable. I mostly play games but also dont want it to lag during apps. I know theres a lot of varibles invovled like memory and what not. I know a good amount about overclocking and computers and since Im buying all new things Im going to buy all good stuff for which ever cpu I get. I would appreciate any input on any part of this subject. Thanks.
Eva_Unit_0 Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 You'd probably be best off if you kept the 2.8 and just got an awesome mobo to overclock it with. With good air cooling you're looking at 3.6ghz at least. As much as I love the athlon chips, there really is no point in getting one if you've already got a good P4 chip. Either go Athlon 64 (Yay! I ordered my A64 Today!) or stick with that p4 and get awesome ram and an awesome mobo to overclock with. Also, Welcome to OCC! FanATIc205 Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 save up and get a 3000+64 224 and cheap mobo like the MSI k8t800 93 bucks from newegg for 317. if you already have some pc2100 or 2700 just run the memory out of sync untill you get better ram. Vampire Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 If its a P4 2.8ghz with 533mhz FSB... then id try get a 2.8ghz C (800mhz FSB), if u have a P4 2.8c, id probly stay with it and upgrade your mobo/ram/vid card. Personally I think its too early to go for the 64 bit chips.
