Guest_Jim_* Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 At this point, everyone seems to know that SSDs provide fast performance while traditional HDDs provide large capacities, and that is just how it works. That distinction is changing somewhat though as Fixstars has released a 6 TB 2.5 in SSD, making it the world's largest of that size. The Fixstars SSD-6000M is no slouch when it comes to speed as it is still able to reach 540 MB/s reading and 520 MB/s for sequential access. The proprietary SSD controller, also found in the company's SSD-3000M, helps keep its I/O performance for sequential access high for the drive's lifetime, which is useful for applications like video recording, medical imaging, network infrastructure, and more. Fixstars is now accepting order in the US, which will ship in late July. How much will they cost? You have to contact the company to get a quote, but the 1 TB SSD-1000 M shows as being $990 a unit. El_Capitan Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 So, the 6TB version will cost at least $6,000, perhaps?
