CPU Cooler for AMD FX-6300 ?

Yeah the ram is kinda no big deal either way.  1 stick or 2, 1600 or faster.  It may make a little difference running benchmarks, but that's clearly not what this rig is for.  As long as you have 8 gbs and 1600mhz, gtg.

That is a great deal on the 280x.  I would totally try to go for that.

But he is getting further and further away from that $700 budget.  I don't calculate in mail-in rebates, by the time you get the gift card in 2-3 months, you will probably already forgot about it anyway.

Remind me to do your rebates from now on and keep the money :P

But here's my build with a 280 instead: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/bZ9zsY

only $728.59 without rebates ($678.59, afterward)

Greetings again all experts;

    Red, IVIY, and Gabriel thanks for all your suggestions and input. I've looked over all your suggestions and changed some things. I think I saved $4 but "a penny saved is a penny earned". I need to keep the Samsung SSD as I found out alot of SSD's aren't living up to there listed Read/Write specs. There were also some issues with memory chips being wiped and rebranded by some major sellers. This drive did well on most tests and price/GB isn't bad either. Red, I'll go with the MSI 960 to match up with the board since we're all in this together. And Gabriel, 2x4GB sticks of GSkill RipJaws will look cool in there. IVIY, thanks for the Radeon suggestion but I've been brand loyal to nVidia since the days of the IBM and HP SFF desktops. And we are using a an XFX GeForce FX-5700 on our soon-to-be retired system. Just never took a liking to ATI graphics stuff. So that's about it for now. For some reason the link I used before got lost somewhere on their end so here's the new one: https://pcpartpicker.com/p/T8fBYJ.

   Thanks again to all you guys for looking in. Catch ya on the flip side ! If I forgot anything let me now.

I'd hope he'd be able to make an exception for lifetime warranty and better performance from the XFX :)

But yeah, I didn't notice the RAM was just one stick but honestly who cares. Dual channeling has never made a real life noticeable performance improvement, plus he could always buy a second 8GB later if he wants but why spend more now? The SSD was a no brainer, double the space for a useable amount of OS drive storage and barely more expensive.

I have owned a couple XFX cards, a 5770 and a 9600GT. The 5770 has been flawless but the 9600GT was another story.

The old 9600GT blew up an electrolytic capacitor at a time when all other companies were putting solid cap on there cards. I RMA's it and 6 months later the RMA card blew the same two caps. I called up XFX and they told me because I hadn't registered the second card my warranty was invalid. I am sure I missed some fine print somewhere but how many hoops should I jump through to have them send me a working graphics card? Double lifetime warranty my butt.

I'm only kicking myself a little for not picking up a 280x, in the end the 960 still outperforms the 280/285 and that is good enough for me.

No buyers remorse though, I am so stoked for my GTX 960 to come I might head to the post office at opening to try to talk them into letting me pick it up there.

I found a slightly better deal on RAM while RAM shopping for my parents.

Red Corsair Vengence RAM is $58 for a dual channel 8GB 1600mhz kit. Pretty sweet, more beefy CPU coolers will clear these ram sticks.
