Sounds like you need a mini forum!

Bimmerforums for my e36 was like a gold mine!

You should be able to look up the service manual for it. 100k service, I'd service the whole car myself!

Goodluck, its a sweet ride

Your welcome!

I'd imagine 500-1000 and you can have the car running like new! I'd be putting money aside for a new clutch sense I'm guessing you have no idea if it's the original. I would search and search for a decent mechanic! Not the dealership crap. There has to be a decent shop around you for imports. The one in my area only delt with euros and they always wanted to talk about anything I needed help with. within reason.

I'd find what synthetic oil/quality filter everyones running on the forums and do a 2-3k change. Clean her out a little. Idk how comfortable you are with pulling the valve cover to check for sludge buildup. Change your gasket too for future maintenance. My e36 has no sludge build up when I pulled mine but the 2-3k change definitely helped. I was so afraid because of the extented 6.9 quart pan BMW had for extended changes....

I'm no expert of course ;)

I remember some lady let me pull her valve cover and about flipped when she finally realized what I was doing haha saved my friend from a sludge disaster thou. Guess you could flash a light in the oil filler too.

Is the clutch slipping or something? There's not much point in changing it till it is IMO. They usually give quite a bit of warning before they really go.

Thats more in the hydraulic part. try bleeding it first and looking for leaks.

Good clutches to order are South Bend Clutch.... they build them locally here and sell them world wide. and they are very reasonable.....

As you never know what you are going to inherit, I chuckeled when I first read your post.

When I married my 3rd wife - yes 3 - I inherited her van for maintenance.

Anyway, it did not run well and I thought I would do a tune-up.

Found that every plug has been cross threaded and there was a lot of blow by.

Fortunately, I am a very good mechanic so I had the tools to remove the plugs and repair the threads in the block.

I would like to own a Mini but even on EBay motors, Minis are at a primium.

no but its feel spongy

Just needs a fluid change and bleed then most likely.  Changing a clutch on that car is a NIGHTMARE.

Sounds like an abused car.

We picked up my kids Mustang from Carmaxx and it had some missing under load at low engine speed. An easy to diagnose symptom that they supposedly took care of. NOT.  A month after we bought it it puked a plug as my kid arrived at work. Known problem with the 4.6 and 5.4 of course. Carmaxx stepped up and paid for the repairs to that plug hole. A week later we took it on a trip to upstate New York in the middle of summer and cruising up the highway at 80mph the ignition would just die. 5 minutes later all is well. This happens a few more times and I slow down to 65 and it takes longer. We finally arrive after a 9 hour trip that should take 6.5. We start pulling the coils and plugs the next morning only to find as you did 4 different plugs and 3 different coils. Keep in mind the card has 90K on the odometer at this point. The plugs were pretty much toast with gaps close to .100 instead of closer to .040. Pretty much found out why the coils were cutting out and overheating. Swapped out the plugs....very carefully and replaced the coils and she ran better than ever.

Car dealers will lie to sell you the car and not do the repairs they say they will.
