N.E.A Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Hello guys, its been a while since I posted here. I have a quick question .. does anyone know what an IT Consultant / Audit duties or scope in business? The thing is, through a job fair thingy a recruitment company got my resume and sent it to another company which called me for that position. Now, I went all over the internet searching for information about it and all I find is misleading in the way that there are actually a ton of duties. I am asking this because I want to know if it is related to Software Engineering or Software development because if it is not I'd probably not gonna take it since what I want to do for a living is design and develop software and that what I spent the past 5 years learning. If anyone knows even just a little bit of it from experience or someone else shared his/her experience with please share them with me here. But most likely I am guessing you would be be doing scripts to get IT stuff to work and other stuff It is good learning for your career. My suggestion, is go for the interview. Learn from the interview and they should/will tell what your duties are. Here is my honest opinion. Try not to be don't be picky right now. You can learn from this position and use it in your resume and for practice to what you want to do in the future. But up to you though.. You'll be expected to be able to do anything they ask and be on-call 24/7. Don't let that put you off, though. Go to the interview and use it for practise, if nothing else. I managed to contact a senior of the same position in the same company through LinkedIn, lucky shot I asked him about the nature of the job and whether there will be any programming or software engineering involved, since this is what I do and want to continue doing, he replied that the position requires no such thing and it was really apparent from their technical exam. According to him, the exam and my deductions from the exam, the position is all about IT review. Basically a consultant walks in a company, organisation ... etc, he reviews their systems and/or software, makes sure they are following standards, writes reports and finally gives recommendations on how and where to improve. I had to let it go gracefully since this is not the career I want. It sounds boring after you get used to it. Every system will be checked for the same thing and the reports will eventually be repeated after writing a number of them. Thanks anyway for your reply. If I had no idea what I want my career to be I would have followed your recommendations but fortunately, I know what I want to do and will continue doing it. I will do my best to hang out with you guys here. what you are saying is 100% correct in case I was not employed. Currently I work as a software engineer for a start-up company. We do a lot of work but if I get a chance with a big name I might consider the switch. That is why I was asking about that position because it was in a big name consulting company. As for the job, with IT there is always a 30% chance or better that the job is helping non computer people use the google and making the excel work.
