New Build Need Advice to Finish

Sorry if the post seem a bit negative, but eh....

1: If you bought everything already, then you made a downgrade in the processor department. A side grade at best.

2: No platform supports "quad channel", it is either dual or single with AMD platforms. The only platform that supported higher than dual, was the 1366 you had before (triple channel).

3: Overclocking RAM is not that useful, not in real time performance, not in games. Pick the one with the higher memory and be done with it really.

4: If you would go for the H100i, you wouldn't miss out much on performance if there was a better cooler. It would only be a 2 degree difference, if even that.

So it is better to get 2 dual channel sets than just purchase a quad channel set or just cheaper? I thought the matching pairs would be good so it didn't matter what bank you put them in like my triple channel.

If you would buy a set of four (8gb each) RAM sticks, they will run in dual channel, since that is the highest AMD platform goes.

I never really went for that "matching pair" stuff, it always worked for me, even if they weren't a matching pair (same speeds though, that IS important :P)

I hate to be *that guy* but...was anything wrong with your i7 930? Honestly I think that's at least equal or better performing than the FX-8350...

Did you purchase all that already?

I'll answer the other questions after I know that

I already purchased and put together. I wanted to upgrade and sale my motherboard i7-930 to my son-inlaw. I needed to change and try out the new UEFI bios

Oh...well in that case I'd just get the cheapest kit of 8GB memory you can, maybe go as "slow" as 1600mHz with CL9 something like this:

Honestly "faster" memory just isn't worth the investment unless it's like $5 more (for the same capacity)

As far as CPU cooler, I'd get the cheapest cooler of the ones you listed unless the next step up is only a couple bucks more

I know what you mean. The H100i is 99.99 but has quality issues and the swiftech is 149.99 not much difference for the quality. But the ram prices are out there in space sometimes.

CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)=135.99 X 2 = 271.98 Difference= 58.01

I think I would squabble over the Trident 1866 compared to 1600 price but the Corsair ouch. I could save the 50.00 from Corsair and get the Swiftech. The prices very that much with all ram brands. I believe your right on the ram speed I read that the 1600 has the best timings for the gamer / average file usage and the upper speeds have better bandwidth for moving larger 8-100GB files. So after just seeing some of the price difference the 1600 dual channel 2 sets is cheaper.
