El_Capitan Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I don't think you need the word "incredibly" in front of "stable". A system is either stable, or not, lol.
aaron6581230 Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Why not buy a mac and then build a cheap NAS? A hackintosh is anything but bulletproof.
Waco Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I don't think you need the word "incredibly" in front of "stable". A system is either stable, or not, lol. Let's go with "incredibly reliable" then.

Waco Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Flash drives are TERRIBLE for backups.

Waco Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I'm just saying flash is not what backups should go on for long term. Storage (indefinite) is my day job.

Waco Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 A local copy, a cloud copy, and another copy on a mechanical drive offsite is probably more than he needs to never lose anything ever again. War - flash sucks for long-term retention. USB drives tend to be the worst about dying randomly as well.
El_Capitan Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I use my server that has RAID 10 with 8 disks that houses my backups, and my main computer (RAID 1 with 2 disks), in case my server dies for some reason. I do have a 256GB flash drive that I keep my backups on, but I wouldn't trust to just keep my backups on that thing for the long haul, I just keep it around so I can restore backups on the go. Redundancy is key.
