Danzer Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 So my pc won't shut down all the way. When I press the shut down button, the "force shutdown" screen appears after a few seconds and then it looks as though it's about the shutdown but doesn't. The fans slow down and then when you think the power lights going to turn off, it doesn't. The pc just boots back up as though I pressed the restart button. I usually have to hold the power button for it to fully shut down. I built this rig beginning of January this year. It packs a 4770k OCed to 4.2Ghz, Asus Maximus VI Impact with most current bios, Samsung Pro 840, Win7, G.Skill 2x8gb 1600, MSI gtx 660, 550W Seasonic G Series modular power supply and Corsair h80i all crammed into a fractal design node 304. The improper shut down has been occurring ever since I built it. I also used this installation guide for Win7 - http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds I wouldn't mind posting a video to show the shut down process if you're interested, but it's how I described it. Everything winds down, but then after a couple seconds, winds back up like it's restarting. It's annoying having to hold down the power button every time I want to shut it down. Any thoughts on what might be occurring here?
SpikeSoprano Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Check to see if any programs are running in task manager, also look at what processes may be stopping a proper shutdown, Did you try a reinstall of windows ? It also might be a hardware problem like psu or mb.
Braegnok Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 (edited) Your board has an ATX power button/soft-off button (2-pin PWRBTN),.. pressing the power button turns the system ON or puts the system in sleep ,.. and if you push and hold power button 4-seconds while system is ON turns the system OFF,.. you can change the (soft off mode) in the BIOS to shut down as normal (on/off) button. chapter 1 page 36 http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1150/MAXIMUS-VI-IMPACT/E8469_Maximus_VI_Impact.pdf Edited August 9, 2014 by Braegnok
