[Q] GTX 770 2gb playing Watch Dogs with Ultra Textures

I want to buy a new gpu and I like nvidia PhysX, but I'm between the R9-280X 3gb (300$ right now) and the GTX 770 2gb (347$).

I want to know if the game have stutter with Ultra Textures due to limited vRAM (gtx 770 2gb) or you can play smoothly?. In that case, should be better get the R9 280X or the GTX 760 4gb version?. I always pick nvidia though. (evga and physx).

i can run wd fine with ultra textures on my 1.5gb Vram card, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Better yet, it gave me a whole 4fps hit when going from medium to ultra.

 

So it should be fine, but you should choose the 280x, even if it is only because the performance is rather similar, you get more Vram, and it is cheaper to boot.

The 280x is a good price but the 770 will play WD no problem, I'm playing it on ultra with my 660 and so far not noticing any stutter but if I do I'll just use high settings.

WarWeeny and SpikeSporano, have you actually checked your FPS? I find it hard to believe you're running everything on Ultra with TXAA and HBAO+ and getting smooth frames because my GTX 770 was hovering between 40-60.

 

That being said, I still advise going with the GTX 770 over the 280X because AMD users seem to be struggling with WD so far; though I'm sure driver support will come soon.

@ Clay, just checked again and I have it set to smaa- hbao is on low- dof off and textures were on high not ultra, getting 37 fps minimum, not complaining with a 200 dollar card. And yes ,I have it oc'ed to the roof and hw monitor shows it using 1.8 gb of ram max.
And it seems amd always has that same excuse ( drivers will be coming soon )

Alright, that makes sense then. lol. I just knew something had to be off if you were getting better than my 770. But yeah, a minimum of 37 is still perfectly acceptable and better than the consoles, so no reason to complain.

I never said i ran everything at ultra

I said i played it with ultra textures, the rest is set to medium/high with ultra environment detail. No AA of the sorts.

I can use all the ao options as i don't get a hit from that apparently. Settled with HBAO+ high because i can. xP

 

I get a solid 50fps that way with some dips here and there without any explanation of why it does that.

Initially, i thought it was the ultra texture setting, but after putting it to medium, i still got those lag spikes, especially during night time driving.

Try TXAA 2x. It's supposedly not that big of a drain compared to other AA methods and it'll be a lot prettier than none

2GB VRAM,yes.

I discuss performance about half-way down on page two.

 

There was some stuttering on Ultra (with TXAA 4x and HBAO+ High). Not bad, but I decided to do a mix of Ultra and High and drop it to TXAA 2x and HBAO+ Low. A bit smoother and still looks good.
