El_Capitan Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I like discussing this with my friends and co-workers. Some come up with some pretty good ideas. For me, getting home from downtown Boston when I decide to work at the office would be a problem. Since I don't carry any weapons, and am stuck on the 25th floor of an office building, trying to get home would be my first objective. If communications were down, that's where I'd assume my wife would go, and that's where my dog is, along with weapons, food, water, and tools, etc. Since ammunition would be scarce (there would be around a million people in a 25 square mile radius), I'd resort to using my katana or dual gladiuses, throwing knives, while I save my gun and rifle for emergencies (and my bow and arrow for some covert zombie operations, or hunting). Plus, since guns make too much noise and attract attention, it probably wouldn't be too good of an idea to use them unless you had to. Getting home, I can't risk taking the subway, taxicab, or bus. The first thing would be to secure a weapon. An office doesn't have too many resources, but I'm sure I could find a lengthy blunt object for bashing until finding something better from a nearby restaurant kitchen. A co-worker mentioned trying to get a boat, but I think that would be too difficult. The best thing would be to try and find a motorcycle or even a bicycle and try to avoid the freeway, but I would need to cross one of three bridges, and that won't be easy. The early part won't just be zombies to worry about, but police or military trying to contain the outbreak by blocking the bridges. In that case, I'd have to find a boat to cross the bridge, or just swim across at the narrowest point. At home is the easy part. My dog doesn't bark, so that's good. We have two entryways (front and back), but up steps. Blocking the stairway up would be easily done. We'd have enough resources to survive a month easily, but longer if we ration. There's a couple of gardens, and a lot of stores around, so those are also options for scavenging. Next thing would be trying to get others together to form a perimeter, and having patrol routes to clear out any zombies while extending the perimeter as much as we can. Everyone would need to stay inside their homes at night, and the patrols would assist if a house needed help. To make sure an area's safe, every inhabitant in a house that's occupied would need to check-in every 12 hours, otherwise the patrol would have to check it out to make sure everything's okay. Eventually, we'd want to try heading to the midwest to connect back up with my wife's family, and maybe the northwest for mine. The midwest would be the best to try and live since it's all open farm country, where we could farm for our food instead of trying to rely on canned and preserved foods. Getting out of the higher population densities seems like the best idea. What would be your plan?
Waco Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I'd go to work and let the guards take care of things.
Andrewr05 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I'd go to work and let the guards take care of things. Then when they get over run you wait for it too cool down and then go loot all of their hardware... I live close enough to a populated area where I can loot things and far enough away from any major cities to not be overrun by any hordes. Also, assuming I can get to lower NH (where my family lives) I would have access to all my other weapons. Plus I can head to cabin and hide out and shit. Guest_Jim_* Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I'd wake up from the dream I'm having where zombies exist Now allowing that zombies do exist, I would probably try to take advantage of living in the Cleveland area and that thing to the North called Lake Erie. Others would likely share the idea to simply stock up and hide out on one of the multiple ships that still come here, at least until humanity responds to the crisis and we can go home. Alternatively could just escape to one of the many islands in the lake, again until the crisis has been dealt with. If water travel isn't available, the salt mines we have here could also be used as shelter, as then it would at least minimize the ways the zombies could come from. Also I somewhat doubt salt and brine would be things a zombie body would withstand very well, if applied appropriately.

El_Capitan Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I would find a way to control the zombies and then use them to take over the world. Yeah, talk about renewable energy. Just have them push/pull something to generate endless energy. World's power issues solved.
Guest_Jim_* Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Sorry but conservation of energy still applies, so eventually the zombies will be exhausted. How long that would take I do not know, as I do not know how their bodies convert what energy they have access to. If they are dead bodies after all, the hearts would not be pumping and that limits the ability for new energy to be imparted to the muscles.Still could be a power source, but like any other, would have a limit. I would find a way to control the zombies and then use them to take over the world. Problem solved! Would you want Nerm ruling the world though? You know him better than me.
