GmAz Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z68V_PROGEN3/ That is the motherboard I have. It is PCI Express 3.0 capable but GPU Info shows my video card running as 2.0. The NVidia driver control panel also shows it running in 2.0 mode. I can't find any reference in the BIOS that sets the PCI-E slot as 2 or 3. Does it auto change when I start a game up since the bandwidth isn't needed when I'm not playing a game? I do plan on getting an i7 4770k and this motherboard soon so its not that big of an issue but I'm curious why it shows as that anyways. When I put the video card in this weekend I did do a wipe of the old drivers and installed the new drivers. Is it something I even need to worry about? ccokeman Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 The 2700K does not support PCIe 3.0. Plain and simple.
GmAz Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Oh, thank you! That I did not know. Odd that the motherboard and cpu are in the same generation and it doesn't support it. Glad I'll be getting a new CPU/Motherboard soon.
SpikeSoprano Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 (edited) You don't need a new mb, just a ivy bridge or newer cpu, it's not the mb it's the cpu that won't support it. However if you upgrade to the 4770 you will need the new mb to support that cpu. Edited April 30, 2014 by SpikeSoprano
