Raife Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 I am thinking of buying this wireless router. does anybody know if an 802.11g router is backward compatable with 802.11b? My work laptop has built in 802.11b.
Eva_Unit_0 Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 Yes, you can set the speed to whatever you want. The "g" rating just means it is capable of going up to 802.11g speeds.

Eva is correct, the reason the g standard is compatible with the b standard is because they both work in the 2.4GHz bandwidth. One of the major difference between b and g is the transmission speed in b is slower than g.
