So... I built a cacti terrarium.

I got a big clear plastic container, put some gravel on the bottrom, mixed up some perlite, sand and cactus soil and added that in and then transplanted all of the cacti into the container.

Here are some pics:

THEN, I happened upon this this article on this cactus enthusiast website thread-
 How-To-NOT Build a Cactus Terrarium

I basically did everything wrong with this, including thinking cacti should even be in a terrarium.

I really like your cactus jug. Though, too much moisture may kill it.

I had an aunt that raised about 200 varities of cactus both in pots and outside.

That was in Kansas City where the temps would get down to 0F during the winter.

They all survived the temp extremes.

Back in the late 70's the big thing was terreriams.

Take a 5 gallon water bottle, add potting soil and plants.

My kids and I built one for a science project.

You could wtch it rain inside the bottle.

Neat.

Though in hind sight growing multiple cacti together like this seems destined to fail.

They're going to get too big and the roots will grow together and its just going to be a hassle if I have to repot and separate the individual plants.

It was only like $20 total for everything, including the big bag of soil, some Miracle Grow cactus food and the extra perlite.

Meh, I'll just let this one grow as is.
