Just a quick question before I place an order for this Weller WLC100 soldering station... Is this any good, or is it just rubbish?

I'd go for the Weller. It's got to be better quality and spares for the Weller are widely available.

That's what I was thinking, about the quality. Order placed, thanks! Time to make a profit by rebuilding some Datsun 240z headlight switches! I've been stocking up for a while and probably have about 8-9 sitting around...

The WLC100 is an awesome starter kit for soldering. Although, if you learn how to solder with a cheapo radio shack pen iron you will be a soldering GOD with a quality unit :).

I learned how to solder at ~16 years old with a radio shack iron on a practice PCB for about an hour before jumping right onto a super expensive AIW 9800 Pro graphics card that was bought for me as a gift - I still have no idea how I didnt kill it LOL.

I've already soldered on multiple occasions, but since I had bad equipment, I did a bad job. I'll probably do a lot more soldering now that I have a proper iron.

Yup, cheapo soldering irons either work or they don't.

Short of getting too hot they rarely ever are all that bad, just keep the tip nice and clean and you're good to go.
