Onion Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Just a quick question before I place an order for this Weller WLC100 soldering station... Is this any good, or is it just rubbish?
paulktreg Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I'd go for the Weller. It's got to be better quality and spares for the Weller are widely available.
Onion Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 That's what I was thinking, about the quality. Order placed, thanks! Time to make a profit by rebuilding some Datsun 240z headlight switches! I've been stocking up for a while and probably have about 8-9 sitting around...
Puck Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 The WLC100 is an awesome starter kit for soldering. Although, if you learn how to solder with a cheapo radio shack pen iron you will be a soldering GOD with a quality unit . I learned how to solder at ~16 years old with a radio shack iron on a practice PCB for about an hour before jumping right onto a super expensive AIW 9800 Pro graphics card that was bought for me as a gift - I still have no idea how I didnt kill it LOL. Onion Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I've already soldered on multiple occasions, but since I had bad equipment, I did a bad job. I'll probably do a lot more soldering now that I have a proper iron.
Waco Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I built my whole ECU with a crapass soldering iron. Next time around I'm buying a good one!
cirro Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I have used torn up tools for years soldering and never had any issues. cheap flux paste on the other hand...
Andrewr05 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Yup, cheapo soldering irons either work or they don't. Short of getting too hot they rarely ever are all that bad, just keep the tip nice and clean and you're good to go.
