m2 sata as boot drive

so I bought a Lenovo Y510p

and it has a spot For a m2 sata hard drive

in normal configurations they set this up as a casHing drive can I install a 128 gig and run my OS off of it

If the option is in the BIOS to enable booting from it, sure, but I'm not sure if the option will even come up without a drive installed.

do you know if it would it be as fast as a normal ssdĀ 

my current drive is a 5400 rpm 1tb with 8gb ssd for cashe

i bought a pny 240gb ssd just in case

It depends on the SSD, but M.2 is just a form factor.

It'd do quite fine, unless you're benchmarking. Real life usage will be as good as any (if it works)
