ClayMeow Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 DirectX 12 has been unveiled at GDC 2014! DX12 will be supported on PCs, Xbox One, and Windows-powered mobile devices. Many existing GPUs will support it. AMD didn't specify which ones, but NVIDIA stated Fermi, Kepler, Maxwell, and all future releases. Sadly, what Windows version it'll require was not stated, but signs point to Win8 (or 8.1) and beyond. While it won't be coming until Holiday 2015, a preview release is expected later this year. The link above has a bunch of images from the GDC presentation.
Crow47 Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 The fact that it supports already existing hardware without the need for an upgrade has me sighing with relief. I'm super happy with my GPU's, and I'm not in the mood to spend $$$ to get in on the DX 12 scene right now. This is all very good! Crow47 Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Although, knowing that we won't see games until holiday season 2015, it's entirely possible I'll have a completely different setup by then. Either way, I think this is great news for consumers!
