feetfats Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 (edited) I just won a 270x in the Christmas contest . I already have a 7970 so I am wondering if I should sell the 270 or crossfire it with my 7970? Can I crossfire a 270x and a 7970? With a 2gb 270 and 3 gb 7970 will I still use 3gb vram? Will the 7970 have to down clock? Would this just be stupid? Edited December 26, 2013 by feetfats
Braegnok Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 (edited) Congrats on the win,.. The HD7970 will crossfire with R9 280X and the HD7870 will crossfire with R9 270X. You could always donate the R9270X,.. to OCC,s Different Kind of Contest,.. Edited December 26, 2013 by Braegnok
feetfats Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 so the 270x is basically a 7870?

mattyamdfanboi Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Couldve sworn the 290 was a rebadged 7970.. not a 280.. could be mistaken though
EuroFight Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Couldve sworn the 290 was a rebadged 7970.. not a 280.. could be mistaken though That would make sense if; R9 270 = HD7870 R9 280 = HD7950 R9 290 = HD7970
feetfats Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) R9 280x is a re branded 7970 The 290 completely smokes the 7970 Edited December 30, 2013 by feetfats
ir_cow Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 the 290 is the only new GPU the rest are rebranded. I mean they have to find a way to sell old stock right? Nvidia does the same thing.

Are they only selling old stock or do they produce brand new hardware under the new name as well?
Braegnok Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) More than likely old bin GPU chips,.. with new PCB, Clocks, and perhaps memory upgrade with a new name. The production lines are torn down and retooled after running a set number of chips. Edited December 31, 2013 by Braegnok

I'm pretty far though lol
