kennethk Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I've heard people extending there wifi signals by taking old satellite dishes and convert them into wifi dishes. Anyone here have any guides on how to do this? Theres a mcdonalds a block away from and it'd be cool knowing that I at least have the option to leech off their wifi when I get internet outages. AkakmanH Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Sorry, Kennethk, no go on the dish. Not compatable. Look at Newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=wifi+anteaan&N=-1&isNodeId=1 for an example of what's available. There are other sites which can help as well. Just do a search on "wifi antenna"
kennethk Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 The mcdonalds is 0.9 miles away from me, is there any cheap way to increase wifi signal about a mile long?

Andrewr05 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Its a two way road, you would have to modify their broadcasting equipment as well to receive it properly, plus you'd have to have an equally powerful transmitter.

Yes this can be done with the right equipment. The problem is that "leeching" off of someone else's wifi is illegal. Discussions of illegal activity are not allowed on this forum.
