Onion Posted August 4, 2013 About to bite the bullet on the B model of it. Still no idea as to what I'd do with it other than a media center... Anyone have recommendations? I saw a couple months back that a couple members were pretty well versed in the dark arts of the Pi.

Onion Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) That bear is so creepy lol I have an hdmi monitor, but it has no audio. I don't have a tv I can hook it up to. Is there a way I can use hdmi for video and use something else for sound? Edit: Found solution. Edited August 4, 2013 by Onion
paulktreg Posted August 4, 2013 The Pi has a 3.5mm audio jack so a set of PC speakers would work.
Onion Posted August 4, 2013 Thanks Paul. I wasn't sure if the audio from the 3.5mm would work if I had the HDMI plugged in as well, but there's a simple command to force the audio from HDMI to 3.5mm. After I'm done messing with it, I think I'll be using it as a media center, and have it hooked up to the same screen and speakers as my xbox. In the meantime, I'm very excited to hijack radio stations and broadcast my own stuff from my car and look at the startled faces of people driving around me. BluePanda Posted August 4, 2013 You should do the creepy bear. Its scary. I wouldn't do it either...never did come up with a convincing enough reason to get a pi.
Black64 Posted August 4, 2013 Hmm I to am curious as to what these can do. Anyone actually using one for something neat?
Onion Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) Hmm I to am curious as to what these can do. Anyone actually using one for something neat? Media center, rocker launcher, spy device (camera + motion sensor), security system (camera, motion sensor, and loud speakers), FM transmitter... Two really outstanding uses are using it to control a robotic arm with a leap motion controller hooked up to it (move your arm, robot arm moves, very cool), and the second, some guy actually made a google glass replica with it! Some people also even use them as tablet computers with a touchscreen, arcade machines, car computers, GPS systems, and even bitcoin farming. The possibilities are endless, all you have to do is think of a cool use for it, have fun for a while, then think of something else and start again. I don't know if you count SSH/DNS server as "neat", but that's what I use my Raspberry Pi for. Edited August 5, 2013 by Nephilumos

Same here, they've always seemed really cool but none of their uses ever were enough for me to buy one.
