potatochobit Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 This is just my opinion but it doesnt look like a lot of new users are asking questions lets take the 'system builds' for instance I don't see alot of young people asking what the cheapest gaming build they can get lately, I see alot of posts of high end PCs, which is good, but doesn't involve compromising on value vs. performance maybe the PC industry on a whole is slowing down? I read that alot on the internet or maybe there are no good video games lately so people don't need a PC? or technology is so far ahead of game development that people's PCs from 3 years ago are still chugging along I know mine is or maybe since laptops are so affordable now with very good specs people just don't need a desktop anymore I know I bought 2 laptops this past year and I have an ipad2 so I'm just contemplating, what is the future and how do we expand on it? I know FFXIV is coming out soon and lots of people will want a laptop to play on it so maybe OCC should do some 'this is a great laptop' to play FFXIV on review
ccokeman Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 May have to try that out!
Onion Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Laptops with good specs got so cheap that instead of building myself a new rig, I just picked up a nice HP laptop. All aluminum, backlit keyboard, 3rd gen i7, GT 650 video card, 8 gb of ram, 9 cell battery, and 1080p screen for $1200 and a free xbox. It just didn't make sense to build a gaming rig AND buy a laptop for classes. I have a feeling that a good part of college aged kids are doing that. Rewind a couple years back to when I wanted to build my first computer, I wanted a gaming laptop, but it was ludicrously expensive, so I opted for a desktop. ir_cow Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 no ones asking questions because we are so good at answers for people before . they just need to look . I also think their isn't anything new to talk about . Intel owns the CPU market and Haswell was a little bit of a letdown . AMD isn't doing so hot either . I give a few months and things will pick up again , it's also the summer .
ClayMeow Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I also think their isn't anything new to talk about . ^This. Forum activity always comes in spurts due to hardware release schedules. Otherwise people can just search the forums about old/current hardware for their answers instead of creating new topics.
bp9801 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I give a few months and things will pick up again , it's also the summer . Most likely another big part of it. Weather is too nice (for most people, anyway) so they don't want to spend all their free time on the PC. There's also vacations/holidays, camps (if people still go to those), sports, and plenty of other things to take up time.
kyfire Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I've been noticing the same thing, less posts here. Yet on 2 other OC forums I'm on there are tons of new posts everyday.
DanTheGamer11 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Yeah I've noticed that sometimes threads stay on the homepage thing for 12+ hours sometimes. People be going too... maybe because of the summer?
d6bmg Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 The main reason behind the recent inactivity might be the lack of change in PC market in last few months. AMD have become stagnant, Intel is releasing more & more power efficient processors. Mother board manufacturers have already released some very good motherboards and the GPU market is also stagnant. So what's there to talk about?? General problems? I see some threads here & there.
SpikeSoprano Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 (edited) I see a few new posters looking for info on older rigs and nobody replies right away so they don't come back, either that or they get replies the next day and you never hear from them again. But I do agree some other sites are much busier than this one. edit> It seems the only time it's really busy is when there is a contest running , and I believe xmas was the last one,lol ! Deathmineral Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I think, like some others already said, it's because it's summer, and a most unusual summer at that. This is one of those summers where it's mostly just stayed cool all the time, at least around my area. I find a lot more people like to get out of the house on a cool summer as opposed to a hot summer. Another thing to consider, it's a next gen console year. I wouldn't expect a ton of people to be exploring pc gaming on a console release year.
ir_cow Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 pc gaming has been steady for a while and when new titles come out , people start asking what it takes to play them . Consoles are just plug n play and that's why I like this so much . A 2005 console that cost me $300 still plays new gams like cysis 3 ( doesn't look as good ).
