Cespenar Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Everything I have read on the forums etc. say that USB 3 is backwards compatible with USB2. My USB devices wont work in my new motherboards USB 3 sockets. Just sayin' ya know! Is this normal, or does my mobo have a potential problem? EuroFight Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Often the USB 3.0 sockets require a specific driver before they are used, these can usually be downloaded from the manufacturer website.

d6bmg Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Loaded the Asmedia device driver and USB 2 devices now work in USB 3 sockets. Done! And previously you were trying without installing the specific USB3 controller driver, I guess?
Cespenar Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Yes. I had not heard of installing a USB 3 driver. Because it said Asmedia driver I figured (wrongly I guess) that the driver was a media driver of some sort. Info in manuals is never very good. d6bmg Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 ^ Yes, sometimes names are confusing. Basic rule: All USB3 controller needs their own driver to work correctly. Generic drivers are there but most of the time those won't work properly, if not at all.
