oh ok thanks man! im just making sure cause i'd hate to have mine die on me just right after buying it :P

why don't you just network your pc,s, that way you can transfer your data without removing any parts at all and it would be much easier to do on a regular basis.
Yeah but if it's a big backup...the extra minute or so to remove and install the drive into his desktop will be far more welcome then the MANY extra minutes of transfer time over the network instead of SATA/USB
Gigabit Ethernet is faster than 99.9% of all laptop hard drives.

Do it over a (wired) network.

Assuming he has a nice/newer laptop that sports a gigabit capable NIC and his router supports it (unless he jacks directly into his desktop...which would also have to have that capability).

For me I have an Esata open caddy that sits on my desktop and I just tear our my laptop drive and pop it in there for speedy monthly image days.

I guess. 12 MB/s is still plenty for a backup...just leave it going overnight or something.

Yeah, I typically do overnight on mine but I also backup the external I carry with my and my phone's internal memory image and sdcard.

For drag and drop it would work equally as well... though for me I acronis my desktop and laptop drives as full images so it might be a pain setting that up over the network ya know?

so i have to back it up manually, like i cant pull the hard drive out and put it into my rig to back it up on another drive?

There are many software are there for automatic backup.

But to control what you backup, it's best to do it manually.

Why reinvent the wheel? I use Windows Backup.

You recommend that as highly as acronis?

It hasn't failed me yet.

Can you use it from a bootable environment?? I love how small Acronis can compress the images and that my Hirens Boot CD has Acronis on it.
