SpeedCrazy Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 So i was puzzling over the outdoor laborer's chronic problem of wet boots, and the miser's instinct, and saw my stack of recently retired vantec tornadoes... and started thinking.... 80CFM .... 1/2" pvc.... So i spent the evening rigging up a voltage adjustable control for a vantec tornado. Works like dream. 12v for the speedy clean, 9v for a medium and 6v for easy over. So watch this space for a slightly unorthodox computer[part] mod. Off to lowes tomorrow after work for pvc. Will post pics as i go. SpeedCrazy Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 A blow dryer works awesome too. Too hot. I shrunk the lining on my last boots. So i worked late and did not get to lowes and am now drawing some paint schematics. Mainly because i can.... it shouldn't be too complicated. Will upload after i eat. Suggestions: Should i use 45 degree or 90 degree joints at the top, i'm thinking from the angle of preserving the shape of the boot(mainly western style pullons with a few shorter leg lace-ups)? SpeedCrazy Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 So rough schematic. Disclaimer: not to scale, or representative of any artistic talent, or lack there of. Dry air goes in damp air comes out. I was thinking of mounting the fan on a distributor box and then mounting 90 degree elbows on that. Slap 10 inch pipes in those elbows and put some perforated 45s on the other end. Shurman292 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Looks very interesting! I hope those fans are strong enough to move all that air. Also, you may want to consider inverting that whole setup. The warm/moist air will want to rise out of the boots, so the ankles of the boots should be pointed upwards. Just my two cents. Good point, but i think that: 1 the air pressure will force it out, and 2 i plan to figure out a heat element so the air going in will be warmer than the air going out. Kuronin Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 The 80mm Tornados move 80CFM, however the 92mm Tornados move 120 CFM, and I happen to have one I am not using, and I would be willing to donate it for this endeavour. The Tornados weigh in at 55 decibels, I can't imagine having more than one in a case, even one is deafening.

As for hot air just get the little woman standing in front of it giving you crap for coming in late
