vyroburn Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 (edited) Hey OCC, I was just gonna let yall in on my little project that I have going. I decided to take some of my old hardware and make a freenas box. Stage 1 - Build FreeNAS Server Turns out I had (6) 250gig hard drives. and (1) 1.5tb external. Currently all of my movies, software, and backup's are on the external. We all know that is a terrible backup medium, so I build a ZFS raid to start moving things to. some screen shots system specs Array and external sizes. Stage 2 - Convert Movies to H.264 / AC3 (going to take 25days to convert all) (thank god for handbrake batch) stay tuned, going to work on the streaming from the freenas box to the roku's Edited October 1, 2012 by vyroburn
suedenim Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Nice one. I was considering FreeNAS or Linux box for a home server so I will definitely be interested in how you get on
