freddie Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 My low quality motherboard only has 4 sata II ports (all in use) and i need more and dont wanna reinvest in a new motherboard just for some sata ports so ive been looking into pci sata controllers. Does anyone know or have a clue whether if running sata ii hdd via pci will bottleneck hdd speeds? the hdds will only be used for video storage so no OS's or anything like that. also are there any other negatives to using a pci sata controller? positives ? it might be worth noting that the controller is a generic one i've found on ebay. El_Capitan Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Some are actually better than the controllers on the mb's. Depends on the quality and price.
d6bmg Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Good or bad? That will totally depend on your budget. Don't buy any crappy ones.

d6bmg Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 well it didnt work with an old ide optical drive but did with a hdd.. Generally the opposite thing happens. Optical drives work but HDDs doesn't.
