Avinexis Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Hey guys. Via email I received an invitation to apply for a job position at a "CQW Financial Corp.": Dear Mr Danny Cleary, we have been looking for candidates to fill in 2 positions at our Company and we found your CV on the web. At the moment we have 2 vacant positions and we would love you to apply. Currently our Company is opening new offices in UK and we have following vacant positions to apply for: - Account Manager Assistant (23-1_UK), - Data Entry Support (23-2_UK); * both positions are offered as full-time and part-time employment. The annual base salary is starting from: £23,000 for Account Manager Assistant; £17,000 for Data Entry Support; (paid in biweekly installments). The terms of employment are according to the United Kingdom Labor Law! As an applicant you are expected to pass the free Company’s training course. After successful completion of the probation training course, you will be entitled to other allowances and benefits whatsoever as per policies of the organization. If you are interested, please submit your application for mentioned above job positions - we would love to see you as a candidate for the position at our Company! We hope you will accept this job offer and look forward to see you as a member of our young and dynamic team! Sincerely, Laura Davis Human Resource Manager CQW Financial Corporation LTD The company claims to be based at 55 Wall Street, New York City. Their application process seems pretty professional, if not a little quick... The only problem is that a google search for the company name brings up no hits. Through their documentation they disclosed their website to be cqwfincorp.com, and again the website seems pretty well tailored. I spoke with the manager via the phone and it seems that I'm expected to participate in a distant (or at-home) 10 day training program in which they will pay me a whopping £30 a day for two hours of my time, AND cover any other expenses such as travel and resources. They've made no attempt to extrapolate any details that could cause them to withdraw money from me... If anything they only seem interested in paying me. This is so incredibly weird. I've spoken to someone who claims to be from the company (a Mr. Paul Brown, reachable at phone number 020 3239 8697) who seemed to have a strange accent somewhere between African and American, I honestly couldn't tell. And basically I'm supposed to start the training tomorrow morning. So a company with little-to-no public profile has contacted me directly and is offering to pay me ludicrous amounts of money simply for training alone, are also offering to cover expenses and aren't asking for a penny in return, and are promising me employment in London afterwards. You can see why I'm so wary. I'm attaching all documentation as well. There's every detail I've been asked to fill in and also the job description and details on the training process... Tell me what you think? Thank you very much guys. This is fairly urgent so opinions would be greatly valued!
Black64 Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 (edited) Never heard of the company, Google turned up nothing. But if you can make some cash, then go for it, but be careful. Also 55 Wall Street, New York City, is not a company, it's a apartment building. Edited August 9, 2012 by Black64

Nephilumos Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 So here's what I think is fishy about it: 1.Offer email is very poorly written 2.No traces of the website on google 3.Upon closer inspection of the source for the webiste, everything looks static (This should be pulled live from a different source, not static): The ticker on bottom for example: <div id="quotes" class="about"> <p> <span><strong>EUR/USD</strong> 1.3292</span> <span><strong>GBP/USD</strong> 1.5268</span> <span><strong>USD/JPY</strong> 93.84</span> <span><strong>USD/CHF</strong> 1.0775</span> <span><strong>AUD/USD</strong> 0.9241</span> <span><strong>NZD/USD</strong> 0.7266</span> <span><strong>USD/ZAR</strong> 7.3751</span> <span><strong>USD/TRY</strong> 1.4869</span> <span><strong>USD/MXN</strong> 12.3017</span> <span><strong>USD/PLN</strong> 2.9510</span> <span><strong>USD/SEK</strong> 7.2482</span> <span><strong>LME Alum</strong> -0.62%</span> <span><strong>LME Copper</strong> -0.28%</span> <span><strong>LME Nickel</strong> +1.14%</span> <span><strong>LME Zinc</strong> -1.09%</span> <span><strong>LME Tin</strong> -0.56%</span> <span><strong>LME Lead</strong> +1.95%</span> <span><strong>CMX Copper</strong> -0.38%</span> <span><strong>CMX Copper</strong> -0.16%</span> <span><strong>CMX Gold</strong> -0.01%</span> <span><strong>CMX Silver</strong> -0.38%</span> <span><strong>NMX Crude Oil</strong> -2.53%</span> <span><strong>EUR/USD</strong> 1.3292</span> <span><strong>GBP/USD</strong> 1.5268</span> <span><strong>USD/JPY</strong> 93.84</span> <span><strong>USD/CHF</strong> 1.0775</span> <span><strong>AUD/USD</strong> 0.9241</span> <span><strong>NZD/USD</strong> 0.7266</span> <span><strong>USD/ZAR</strong> 7.3751</span> <span><strong>USD/TRY</strong> 1.4869</span> <span><strong>USD/MXN</strong> 12.3017</span> <span><strong>USD/PLN</strong> 2.9510</span> <span><strong>USD/SEK</strong> 7.2482</span> 4. The server is hosted in california, which is again, weird. I say don't risk it. But then again, I'm paranoid.
Gremlin Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 So did anyone interview you first of all? Second if you receive a job offer without an interview it is fishy.. Third I would not risk it..
olokul Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 If you run a webpage lookup to ip address it points to 98.139.135.21 and then run that through an ip address lookup it points to a host name sbsfe-a.geo.vip.bf1.yahoo.com.... So if cqwfincorp.com points to 98.139.135.21 then 98.139.135.21 should point back to cqwfincorp.com not something at yahoo in Sunnyvale California. in short i would not trust anything from them. bp9801 Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 You'll find some emails like that the more you put your résumé out there. Always some kind of scam or BS trying to get you to give away personal info.
MercuryDoun Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 IMO, they are trying to get your personal information... In order to do "Background checks" and all that, they are going to ask for all your personal information, which is all they need to completely steal your identity. IVIYTH0S Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 (edited) You sorta had me until I've spoken to someone who claims to be from the company (a Mr. Paul Brown, reachable at phone number 020 3239 8697) who seemed to have a strange accent somewhere between African and American, I honestly couldn't tell. It seems a majority of scam crap has some elements or ties to africa lol, ask him if he's a prince next time you talk to him. I'd just troll him/them and don't give anything important out, give them fake info and then just have a ball.
