Well I am a big fan of space exploration. I think it is one of the few ways we don't waste money as a country. Congratulations to all those who worked on it to make it a success. By the way the people react to the success of it safely landing you can tell they have all their heart and soul in it.

 

I'm not sure Mars is the place we should be focusing these days but it will be interesting to see what it finds.

I think it's great to spend money towards this. Look at all the companies kicking their butts not having set sail to the "New World". Some countries lost out on some good land. A lot of countries spent money on paying for explorer expeditions because if they found something, they could own it, or make money off of it.

 

Mars and the Moon will be the new real estate of the future, for both mining and space dominance to rule the world. America shall take over the world!

Actually not raining on my parade because I would like to see that happen. I just go on what the professionals say. Plus, IMO humanity will not be the dominant species on Earth much longer. ELI will probably see to that long before we are ready to live on another world.

While I understand your pessimism, there's a lot of optimistic people out there (I'm one of them). Look at it this way. If people don't believe we can do it, we'll never try. If there's 0 attempts, then there's 0 chance. If people believe, and what everyone else believes is impossible, there's always a chance to prove them wrong, because someone is making the attempt to make it happen where no one else is.
