Unless u got small children or pets do you really need the grills at all?

 

I personally think raw speakers look pretty unfinished (the exception being subwoofers).

 

 

Wasn't going to use grills at all but the reasoning is to fit a steampunk design now

 

I put together a rough pic of what the final product could possibly look like. Everything copper coloured will be sprayed with a metallic copper spray and then destressed by a dry stiff bristled brush lightly dabbing some black paint.

hmmm...the fan grill made it somewhat more originally yours, liked it too

or spay paint it with metallic copper first then matte black next, then sand until you get the desired copper/black blend? that might give you more detailed/natural distressed look.
