Updating BIOS - through Windows or USB/DVD?

Recommended Posts

ASUS provides 3 ways of updating BIOS

ASUS Update: Updates the BIOS in Windows® environment.

ASUS EZ Flash 2: Updates the BIOS using a USB flash drive.

ASUS BIOS Updater: Updates and backups the BIOS in DOS environment using the

motherboard support DVD and a USB flash disk drive.

Is it safe to do it in Windows or should I do it with a USB or DVD?

Use the USB flash drive through the EZ flash program. According to my last conversation with an asus tech, that is what they prefer you to do. Plus using the updater through windows runs a greater risk of corrupting your BIOS.

Ever since boards have started coming with dual BIOS chips I just flash in Windows. Worst case you boot the backup BIOS and try again.

EZ Flash works great and IMHO is the most reliable option. Normally I wont recommend that folks flash motherboard Bios in the Windows environment. But I'm kind of old school with stuff like that.
