First State Quarters of the United States Collector's Map

Recommended Posts

Did anyone here ever do the First State Quarters of the United States Collector's Map?

My parents got me this thing when I was younger, and I just completed it today after having forgotten about it for some years now.

when they first came out I was saving 10.00 of each state and put them in what i thought was a safe place....when I had to move it would appear someone found it and stole most of it.... not sure how much was there probably 400-500 dollars worth and when I found it there wasnt even 2.00 dollars worth... I quit collecting

Damn doc, that sucks.

I know right... I hid it in the kitchen on top of the cabinets in the back corner... we had 11 foot ceilings in that house and all kinds of decanters on the cabinets and flowers and stuff and it was hidden pretty well... so someone would have had to been snooping to find it...I am sure it was a family member to boot....

I've got two collections -- my grandpa and I collected together growing up. He's got a full uncirculated collection...but I guess it doesn't really belong to "anyone" particular now that he's past away. :(

I have a full collection for the 50 states, haven't made an effort to collect the territories. Have a full set from each mint.

Can someone please explain what they are for the non-american / non-collectors on here?

By the name it sounds like a map where you need to collect a coin minted in every state. or i could be way off :P

Our 25 cent piece, for the last 10 years, has had a number of different designs. 5 per year, one per state, for 10 years, released in the order of joining the union. So in 1999, we started with Delaware, by the end of 2009 we had Hawaii. They were very popular to collect, and many companies sold large maps with coin holders built into the states so you could track/display your collection.

I have a full set of the states (and one other set missing a single coin), from when I went over the US a couple of years ago. In Vegas, it's pretty easy to find most of the quarters, but I struggled a bit in Miami!

Cynical, but true, is that these sets are an excellent way of generating revenue for the Government. If a 25c quarter costs about 10c to make, every time someone collects a quarter and takes it out of circulation, the Government is generating 15c profit instantly.

Hundreds of millions of dollars can be made in profits very, very quickly :) I think they're great! But wish full sets to buy as collector editions were cheaper here in the UK.
