Health Care Bill Upheld

Oh come on now... you already do that. You pay for others Medicare/Medicaid and not only that you pay for the Social Security of others and Welfare benefits and all kinds of things... so really whats one more thing to pay for? not much when you already do

And that right there sums it up. I don't want to pay for any of it and I certainly don''t want to add to it.

You cannot compare Romney care to Obama care.

Romney's plan was conceived and implemented on a state level, therefore no Federal Government meddling or trying to suck power away from the states. While the provisions in Romney's healthcare legislation and Obama's healthcare legislation are eerily similar, remember that one is implemented at a state level while the other is to be implemented on a national level.

I'm glad it's upheld. In time, it will become "national health insurance." People don't realize how great a system "national health insurance" is. They criticize a system that they have no personal experience with. I've met a lot of conservatives in the fives years I have lived in Taiwan. Most of them opposed natioanl health insurance until they realized how the system brings about so many benefits to them and their families. People waste their time complaining about "privacy, federal and state rights, socialism, communism, tyrant, oppression, insert other complaints here". You don't know how good NHI is.

I'm enjoying a form of national health insurance here in Taiwan. It's amazing. I pay $100 for my family of three. I paid $10 to get my dental filings replaced not too long ago. When I really need to see a doctor, I pay $3 for the visit and $0 for my prescription. When my wife was in labor, we only paid $300 for her four days and three nights at the hospital. When my son had Kawasaki disease, which affects children of Asian decent more so than other races, we paid nothing for his entire week at the hospital. I can't begin to imagine how much it would have costed me back in the States. The health care system in the US is broke. It's all for profit. Something needs to be done and Obamacare is taking us in the right direction. Finally, the quality of service and care here is top notch. Do I have to wait to see the doctor? Are the waiting times longer than in the States? No. I don't. In fact, many of my appointments have been on the dot.

I want to know what the tax implications are. As it is now I pay my fair share and more for the ones without jobs who love to procreate like rabbits so they can suck up more milk from the government teet. When you see kids(16 to 20 something for clarification) posting on facebook that they are now pregnant and are whooping it up because they got their government cheese and medicare approved it gives one pause. The sense of entitlement that they have is amazing. It;s ok that the state will pay for your mistake, BTW you are so welcome for taking money from my pockets that I could use to feed my family not yours.

I can see companies doing away with the company health care plans to run us through the insurance mills to deliver less than adequate healthcare for a price uptick to cover the insurance companies bottom line. Socialized healthcare comes with a cost in terms of added financial responsibility for the masses through higher taxes and a reduction in the speed with which services are rendered.

Medicare is currently broken and the impetus to fix it is lost on the politicians who are worried about where their next bit of cheese is coming from rather than sitting down to fix the problems.

I find it laudable how many people are opposed to health care reform, especially since it's saving you money. That is unless you take to heart the study done by Charles Blahous.

I also find it funny how little this story was covered; Buffett Rule failing.

The people without health insurance.... you're already paying for them.

edit: I am by no means saying that Obamacare/Romneycare in its current form is perfect. What I am saying is that it's a step in the right direction towards better health for all Americans, as well as lower costs.

@Ekim. I agree with you. I am dumbfounded at all the people opposed to a system they know nothing about. A system they have personally never experienced. They talk as if national health insurance will only make things worse. I call bull crap. People need to open their eyes and see how beneficial national health insurance is.

I'd love to know about everyone lauding this "landmark" victory. How many of you have jobs that provide healthcare at a reasonable cost? How many of you work for small businesses that may go broke and out of business (not that hundreds aren't failing every month now anyway) trying to provide "adequate and affordable" health insurance to their employees. How many of you are in income brackets where you already pay 13 to 18 percent of you annual salaries to federal income tax. What program does the United States government currently run that is an overwhelming success? Why do you think they will do any better at health care?

I mentioned in one of my first responses in this thread that I supported a health care system that insured coverage for every American. But the devil is in the details. How do WE pay for it?

From an outsiders pov, I never knew how deep this actually goes and means. Looks I am going to have to delve deeper into this issue. I won't go further than that due to having the NHS. However I do not understand how free health care can be such an issue! Hence why I need to educate myself on this. I mean no disrespect or offense on this post. I simply do not comprehend this issue.

Probably because it isn't free. I don't understand where a lot of you are getting your information from but if you have sources, it would help a lot. From my understanding, this health care system isn't really providing anyone with anything, it's simply forcing us to purchase something we may or may not need.

Like I said earlier, if we were getting what a lot of other countries have, we wouldn't be so up in arms about it. This isn't about making health care affordable, that isn't what this bill does, it simply forces everyone to have insurance. Originally it was thought this bill would have to effect of decreasing insurance prices, however a lot of people (by which I mean people that know this stuff better than you or I, not someone like Rush Limbaugh) think it will have the opposite effect of increasing prices.

All I'm trying to say overall is that this is much more complicated than many of you are making it out to be, it's not a simple thing and shouldn't be getting passed so easily and quickly.

The people supporting it aren't providng any facts. It sounds as if they are just playing party politics. In other words liberal democrats that just like it because Obama did it. The problem is most people have not and can not read the bill and that includes those who signed it. That is the whole problem. They pass 2300 pages that YOUR elected representatives should be able to read and study in depth and then make a decision. Many of them admitted they did not get this opportunity. People also forget that there were democrats that opposed it and then the night before the vote they had CLOSED door meetings and changed their minds. Doesn't the process itself raise any eyebrows? It didn't exist and then all of a sudden boom we have it and its passed.
