ir_cow Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 (edited) Honestly.....when i heard this news I thought it was a joke but M$ is trying very hard to remove all code related to the start button so you cannot add one yourself with a mod. I guess I could bash my head against the keyboard until some sort of hot key worked so i could browse to my programs. Also they are removing the ability to boot to the desktop....way to go M$, this is ME all over again. Broken, Stupid and forgettable. The first time i used ME I turned around and found my Win 98 disk and didn't look back. Plus it Blue Screened on me within about 5 minutes. My_Inner_Fred Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Wait wait wait... Their going to take away the start button? You have got to be kidding me.... and you can't boot to the desktop?! Whaa??? Definitely not going to get Windows 8 after hearing that. I knew it was designed with tablets in mind but I never knew they were going to take out the button that made windows, "Windows"..... El_Capitan Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Well, I never liked it much in the first place, especially while playing games. However, sucks for all the kids that grow up in the Windows 8 era, "Dad, what's that button on the keyboard? I never use it."
MJCRO Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Yeah and they're removing it from the new Server 12 too. Honestly I think Windows 8 is going to be a worst fail than Vista was. I def. can see sales being really bad because of all this Metro UI bullspit.
Lackadaisical Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 So what happens for all the people who actually have work to do? Sigh, I'm going to avoid it like the plague, actually I'm pretty sure I would rather get the plague... Then add in the fact that they are also doing it to Server12, I don't even know what to say to that one.
dr_bowtie Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Just goes to show you they did NOT listen fully to the people with Vista... let them flop again maybe this time they will get it... it could be that this will be a version geared only for tablets and like devices and they will have other version for desktops... lets hope thats the plan because if not it's going to be a HUGE FAIL
bp9801 Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 The removal of the Start button has been known for a little while. Although the inability to boot to desktop just means I'll be sticking with Windows 7 for a while longer.
gebraset Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 This is just another step into the cycle. Windows 95 - Amazing Windows 98 - Horrible Windows 2000 - Amazing Windows ME - Horrible Windows XP - Amazing Windows Vista - Horrible Windows 7 - Amazing Windows 8 - ????? Seems like the trend will continue for a while.
Black64 Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Windows 7 should be staying around for awhile then.

I didn't read the article and probably wont. How does that even make sense, how could you NOT boot to the desktop.

Not sure what he means. I just can't stand the drastic remodel it is just wrong. Something that has been ingrained into me pretty much all my life with computers is that the desktop is the bottom of everything and that the start button is where you go to access everything and now well neither of those things is true. If I want a touch OS I will use android not windows but oh well sh¡t happens. Can't wait to see how Microsoft turns things around for the release after windows 8 or if they will include options to run windows 8 like windows 7 but again they have cut too many features I like.
