Muchoman1 Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Hey, bought a 6990 off a guy locally, and gpu1 is running hot, by that i mean 74 degrees celcius at idle, CCC, afterburner and HWMonitor all report the same temp. GPU 2 is at 41 degrees idle. and by feeling the seperate ends of the card one is much hotter than the other. there is 4 screens that run off gpu1, but 73 at idle is too high for a 6990. Apparently the stock cooler hasnt been taken off before, so any ideas as to what the issue might be?
Waco Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Sounds normal to me. Multiple monitors make them run much hotter at idle IIRC.

Multiple monitors make them run much hotter at idle IIRC. just ran 3dmark 11, hit 103 degrees on each card, and only got 6347 P graphics score. reviews got over 9k score, not sure whats happening here

Nyt Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Wow, 103C is hot. Are you keeping it auto fan or custom fan speed ? Try it at max 100% fan speed and see the temps

Munkypoo7 Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 (edited) Maybe the cooler on that one core is mounted improperly / needs a new application of paste? That's just bizarre :\ Edited May 28, 2012 by Munkypoo7
BluePanda Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Have you cleaned out the card since you got it?
Muchoman1 Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Have you cleaned out the card since you got it? no, as i said i havent taken it apart, and it looks pretty clean inside. ill probably stick a bigass aircooler on it like this one http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=207_314&products_id=19506
Waco Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Why not just take it apart and fix it?
