this is a fresh install of windows 7 pro 64bit on my temporary rig whilst the hive is under construction,

i3 2120 @ stock 3.3ghz

12gb ram (8 gb corsair vengance, 4gb gskill ripjaws

gigabyte 460 1gb superovermegauberclock (probably not the right name, but its to that effect)

gigabyte 8600gt silentpipe (to run more screens off)

asus mobo

antec 600w psu

the system has been running fine for a couple of weeks, then suddenly 6 bluescreens today

First thing I would do is remove the 460 video card and run memtest 2 sticks at a time or you could try removing all the ram and boot with 1 stick at a time in different slots to eliminate the ram/slots as the cause. if you find it won't boot or BSODs with 1 stick move that stick to another slot and try again. That will tell you if it's the ram or the slot. If all the ram tests good then it could be any of the other hardware but in my experience the ram is most often the culprit when you have this many different BSODs. Good luck.

EDIT: I just noticed that you're using different brands of memory in the same computer. That is usually not a good idea.

yes all the motherboard drivers are installed @ captain

as for the ram, this is the system i picked up off the friend i sold my i7 system to, to use until my new system is done.

the system ran fine for a few weeks, then this happened yesterday, two happened while using it normally then 5 happened when playing portal two co-op (something i was doing fine the day before) then after 5 bluescreens in portal 2, i gave up and played tribes ascend instead, and didnt bluescreen for the rest of the night

alright, i will try memtest etc, but its odd how portal 2 would set it off within a minute, whereas i played tribes for a few hours without issue

EDIT: although the game did crash to desktop 3 times over the night, something which i havent had happen before with it, maybe the memory is corrupting whats loaded on it?
