SpikeSoprano Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Usually if you replace the valves you replace the guides, if not after a bit of run time the old guides will leak oil into the cylinder wall and it will burn oil and lose compression. I use to race mini stock and only used Hondas so I've rebuilt more than a few engines from the crank on up, in other words I learned the hard way what has to be replaced. But if their running right they are one tough engine.
Andrewr05 Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 While you have the heads off you should find someone to do a quick and dirty resurfacing job. (maybe polish it up yourself?)
BluePanda Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Waaaa.... Turns out the rings were bad, and the pistons were beat up pretty bad. We didn't see it at first since the grime was caked on so well -- guess that should have been a sign. Drug her back to the junk yard with the TIGER!!! VROOM VROOM...not so fast tiger. lol. They gave us our money back so no loss out of pocket -- just a little loss on time if you call tearing an engine apart a loss. SpikeSoprano Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Hey look at the good side, you learned a bit more about engines and you didn't have to molest one of your working cars to do it.
