Kitting myself out with Koolance. First timer

Recommended Posts

A little off topic

Don't aquatuning blocks have steel and copper? Sounds bad

Not in contact with water, no. They just have cosmetic covers made out of stainless steel.

EDIT: After further thought the stainless is in contact with water, but stainless + copper seems to be okay in terms of corrosion. The big no-no is aluminum and copper.

It is all good to know :)

The Swiftech block looks hot!! I have seen some comments on RRTech that weren't particularly positive about the Koolance stuff, are they just being over critical d!&ks or is there something to it? If the Swifteck HD7970 is due out soon I may just hold off... are there any hints as to when they will release it?

RRTech is pretty critical of pretty much everything. The Koolance of today is not the same as the Koolance of a few years ago, and the old Koolance is the one they have issues with.

Personally I can't stand the owner of Swiftech. He's a complete jackass and because of that the only thing I'll ever buy from Swiftech is their rebranded D5s (the 655) and their radiators. He essentially told me to screw off when I discovered a GLARING issue with their 4870X2 Caldera waterblock. Luckily the seller I bought it from agreed to take a return even though it wasn't "defective" according to Swiftech. I don't know about you, but having my card shut down due to the VRMs nearly melting is surely a flawed design.

I try to steer away from swiftech but they do perform well. All I need to do is get away from there processor block and ill be home free. LOL.

The swiftech block is pretty bulky but I guess that is for the extra channel? It is certainly not as elegant as the Koolance one.

The minimal look of the Koolance stuff is very nice, I agree. While I do like the look of the Swiftech GPU block, I really like that they have a dedicated channel for the VRM. Perhaps they added that after the VRMs started melting ;)

Hi Guys,

Long time no posts.

I just bought everything excluding the 7970 block and the MCR320 as I will need to wait till next fortnight for the rest of the finances.

I'll add some photos as the build progresses.

Thanks again for all your help.

I was wondering what happened. Can't wait till photos.... I so envy.

Yeh, sorry. I only get about $600 to play with per fortnight. Last cycle I had to pay bills and fines so I couldn't get anything. Providing everything doesn't . up i will get the last pieces in two weeks, I hate waiting! lol

While I am here: I have decided I want a controller because I don't want to have to manually adjust it every time I play games/watch TV. I have settled on the Lamptron FC Touch Fan Controller because it has 6x30W channels. This way if I go push pull I can have two fans on each channel, leaving 2 channels free. As I can control the voltage rather than RPMs I can even control the pump (I think?).

I am unsure whether or not the Bitspower G1/4 Matte Black Temperature Sensor will work with this controller and finally would this sensor fit into the the XSPC Premium Acrylic Reservoir for Laing D5 Pump?

Thanks again,

I'll post some unboxing porn on Friday ;)

Check this out.

Xspc LCD temp displays and even a bracket here.

Put this inline and screw the bitspower temp sensor in.

One temp sensor in line somewhere measuring water temp and another unmodded sensor taped say under the front of the case just to measure ambient temp.

The lamptron controllers are pretty damn good.
