Simple HTPC

Hello everybody.

Unfortunately i have not followed the hardware news for some time now, so i'm pretty lost at choosing the right parts, maybe some of you guys can help me?

Well first of all budget is around 350-400usd, which ain't a alot, but my requirements are pretty low too.

I want my system to play very big high bitrate 1080p movies(25GB) in a smooth solid quality, and then i want a 1TB 3,5" harddrive and support for atleast one more.

I don't care about blu-ray drives nor very nice audio quality, cause i'm only playing in stereo anyway. Support for a sound card upgrade later will though be appreciated much

I need only 1 HDMI port and 1 gigabit ethernet too

If needed i'll build the system myself, but a cheap prebuild system is okay too.

Like everybody else i appreciate a silent system, but again my budget is tight so i might have to compromise.

Thanks a lot for the help

- Martin

Heya

How about something like this?

You could go with 2GB of RAM and save $6 ...but seems like a shame not to double it up for only $6 more. This is probably a better PSU but it would put you past your budget.

- MB & CPU » ASUS F1A75-M FM1 AMD A75 + AMD A4-3400 Llano 2.7GHz ($145)

- HDD »»»»»» Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB 5900 RPM 64MB Cache ($137 ...w/ shipping)

- RAM »»»»»» Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 4GB ($19)

- PSU »»»»»» COOLER MASTER Elite 460W ATX12V V2.31 Power Supply ($33 ...w/ shipping ...$23 w/ $10 MIR)

- CASE »» »» SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum MILO HTPC Case ($75 ...w/ shipping)

Total = $409

EDIT:

BAH! I had this at $399 till I realized the motherboard didn't have HDMI. This one does. If you live in a tax free state than $409 should be your out the door cost including all shipping costs. With the MIR I guess it still comes to $399

Hey thanks a lot Fogel, the system looks really nice :)

I'm living in Denmark and we have a 25% tax, but i took this into consideration before i posted my budget.

Anyways i'll go have a look on the price in Denmark, maybe i'll go with a 1TB drive instead of a 2TB.

And if somebody else have any suggestions, please post :)

Around 3000 dkk maybe a bit more

Mobo - ASUS F1A75-M LE - 539

CPU - AMD A-Series A4-3400 - 515

HDD - Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB - 895

RAM - Crucial DDR3 1333MHz 2GB - 95

PSU - Corsair CX V2 430W PSU - 325

Case - Silverstone Milo SST-ML03B - 469

Price - 2838

Which means you can spring for another 2gb stick of ram and go with 4gb as well as spending some money on high quality and quiet fans to keep down temps and noise.

Sorry for triple post.

Mobile interface didn't work too well for me :(

Haha don't worry and I have recommended some they are embedded in the words high quality and quiet.

Bare in mind the noctuas I linked cost a lot and you could go with something else like the fractal design ones which while maybe not performing as well due to lower rpm and much lower cfm are cheaper and slighty quieter (although take manufactures ratings with a grain of salt)

If it ended up being 4 fractal silent vs 2 noctua at roughly the same price as it has here I would say fractal although I can look some more tomorrow if you want.
