GTX 560 Ti Hawk memory temp = 100c!

I'm sorry, but yes, I'm starting yet another topic. I need this answered though.

The MSI GTX 560 Ti Hawk has triple voltage memory which allows the user to adjust not just the Core voltage, but the Memory as well as the Auxiliary voltage. To unlock these features I needed to get the latest beta version of MSI Afterburner which turned out to be: 2.2.0 beta 10.

I get this version of afterburner working and begin looking around at the new features. I notice there's a memory temperature monitor and it reads: 103 Celsius max temp. I had just been playing Crysis 2.

Here's the funny thing. After playing Crysis 2 the memory temperatures don't go lower than 69c after a long period of idling. If I put my computer to sleep and bring it out of sleep the memory temp reads ~26c and idles at that.

Here's a picture example:

Idle before Crysis 2: http://imageshack.us...burneridle.png/

Max After Crysis 2: http://imageshack.us...nercrysis2.png/

Idle after Crysis 2: http://imageshack.us...rysis2idle.png/

Simply click the image to fullscreen.

Thanks!

If you are comfortable and confident then I would take it apart to make sure the memory pads are making contact with the heatsink. Or I would get with Msi as that thing should not be running that hot.

Drivers are already the newest version.

I don't want to take the card apart and risk voiding the warranty.

From what I've read HERE it appears to be a sensor problem.

The way the readings change drastically is very strange. For example after maxing a game and memory reads 100c, if I put my computer into standby and turn it on again the memory shows a dramatic drop of 50c-70c in 2-3 seconds and than idles at ~30c. However, if I don't put the computer into standby but instead let it idle the lowest it gets is ~70c. What does that tell you?

I started this topic to simply see others reactions to this "issue". I'm pretty confident that it's a sensor malfunction, but if you'd read that link and let me know I'd be very appreciative. Thanks!

I probably have told you this on your original topic but, have you tried contacting MSI themselves? I mean it's their own software with their own cards so a bug on their software would be unlikely I think...

Well it is a beta version of afterburner so it could have bugs, and memory temps might be one of them.

As far as I've read, it's not a software bug but the sensor on the cards itself...

I'll try contacting MSI, but I have my doubt they'll have a reasonable response to this problem.

I don't think it's an afterburner problem, but instead the memory temperature sensor on the card.

I remember reading about someone who RMA'd their GTX 560 Ti Hawk only to find the new card had similar issues. Supposedly most GTX 560 Ti Hawk's have this error.

Anyone else with a GTX 560 Ti Hawk? If you'd let me know what your memory temps are during/after gaming that'd be awesome!

Just an FYI, it seems that every Afterburner release for awhile now is a beta. Also they will expire and you have to dl the latest beta after that.

I would def contact MSi and see what they say though!

  • 7 months later...

Well hi there! I have the same card and THE SAME PROBLEM!! EXACTLY! this is what i posted on the official MSI forums and also went to MSI support and send a ticket with no answer yet.

http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=160911.0

I believe that is a SENSOR problem, or broken or misplaced (maybe in the hot airflow??),,, cause theres no other way that with a shutdown of the pc, suddenly mem temp drops to idle or even less, when seconds ago was steady a 96º C!!! its not normal... and i think its not the card either cause the GPU temp is always normal even when full load with a benchmark or a heavy graphics game.

I hope we can get a true answer someday about this... cause i cant RMA the card, i bought it in USA on a trip and i live in Argentina.

Thx for ur time guys! cya later.

I've always had wierd quirks with my MSI 560 TI hawks, One reports it's core runs at 1.1 the other 1.03 O_o, The only thing I've kept paying attention to is their regular temp which usually what correlates to any issues I have with them.
