Amp for bookshelf speakers

hey guys, i inherited a pair of bookshelf speakers from my dad, they were the rear channel of our home theatre system, but those have been replaced with ceiling mounted speakers.

 

these things are 100w rms per channel and operate at 6 ohms. im looking to use them as speakers for my pc, but need a amp for these things

 

budget is sub $200 aud (pretty much the same as usd) and i am looking to get the most out of these speakers. a 2.1 channel amp would be preferable so i can run a dedicated sub which i will mount in my desk.

 

any good brands/models and any to avoid?

 

going down to the local av shop tomorrow sometime to get some gear, so fast responses would be nice

If you can live without the sub channel (just get crossovers for the mains and line-level in for the subs) then I'd suggest going vintage, there aren't any worthwhile 2-channel receivers in production that will compare price/performance wise to a decent older unit.

Not really, just go to a thrift store and you may come across one.

 

Like all companies they made low-end models back in the day too, so you may want to do some research on the specific model.

 

Off the top of my head maybe a Marantz, Pioneer, Kenwood, Sansui.

 

 

I'd hunt around and I'm certain you can find a decent vintage unit for under ~$80.

Technics amp from cashconverters because there is sweet fa available at the moment.

 

I say technics specifically because they seemingly can't die I was rocking a 300 watt rms from the 1980s whith no issues up until the day I spilt water in it. I happened to pooch that particular A class 2ch for only $5 out of the tip

 

Take a look cashconverters, eBay, gumtree ect for one of these amps because honestly it's the only way most people will get to own a decent A class amp. Otherwise cashconverters always has something and you should be able to find something decent.

 

Final option mod a comp PSU and use it to power a car amp projects are fun and it will be far cheaper to get your 2ch of 100watt rms that it would be finding it in a brand new stereo amp/receiver.

If you don't mind a little DIY, you can pick up one of the Sure amplifiers from Part-Express that use TA2025 opamps. Check this out: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=320-300. I myself am using the 4-channel version that is basically two of those amps on a single board: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=320-302. The 4-channel version I'm using is currently powering 2 self-built bookshelf speakers and 2 6" subwoofers. The amp itself is fantastic - I'm actually not using an enclosure for it since I like having it out for people to look at, but for the 2-channel version, there are plenty of premade chassis available from parts-express and ebay designed for it. You can also go with something like this: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-383. It's all ready all in one, with separate pre-outs you can use for connecting to a subwoofer amplifier (if the subwoofer has a separate amp). For the Dayton, you'll need a walwart DC powersupply, for the Sure's, you'll need something like this: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?PartNumber=320-316.
