Black64 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) Well I am finally fed up with my 6850 and I need something faster. I will upgrade in 1-6 weeks. Here is what I am currently running... 2 monitors at 1600x900 1 at 1020x756 (something like that) Main monitor is at 1920x1080 I only game on the main monitor and watch a movie or surf on the other 3. I get a lot lag right now in Starcraft 2 (all eye candy) and when playing almost any game watching a movie.(not enough VRAM maybe??) also newer games I am starting to turn off more and more options. I run a lot of older games to so I want to stay far away from x-fire and sli. I saw the reviews on the 7970 so I know the 7950 should be slightly under it. Also I never play on dx11 or eyefiniti. I am just not sure what to buy. Price should be max $400. I am considering the 5970, 6970 and the 7950. VaporX Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 The 7000 series seem to offer a lot more potential options for the multi-monitor support so based on your setup I think I would look at that.

I don't run all of my monitors off my the card, I run 2 of my gpu and 2 of the onboard. I only really need to run 2 off the gpu anyway. 90sgamer Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 The 5970 is a dual GPU card (On PCB Crossfire), and is faster than the 6970. It would give you the same problems in old games as dual card setup. I would go for a 7000 series if I were you.

Because its about the same price as a 6970, but faster on games that support x-fire. Reading some reviews, looks like the 5870 is 10% slower then the 6970 but in xfire a lot faster, the 5970 is cooler and uses less power then one 6970. So i am leaning toward the 5970 over the 6970 if xfire can be turned off with ease. Edited December 23, 2011 by Black64
Black64 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 After reading some more reviews I might grab a 5970 then wait for the 7950 benches/aftermarket coolers to arrive.

Black64 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 7950 If a 5970 at 300$ beats a 580 and a 7970 just barely beats a 580 then were will be the 7950 at 450$?
d6bmg Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 5970 for being vfm option. Or 7950 for just being the proud owner of 7xxx series.

DanTheGamer11 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 7970 doesn't barely beat it... that'd be like 1-5% difference... so like was the NGC meant to be for gaming or that parallel processing crap..
Black64 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 The 5970 runs hot AND uses more power than a 6970... Ok it does use more power but does the speed increase make it a better buy then a 6970?
