Muchoman1 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 hey guys, ive sold my caviar black 1tb, and am now looking to buy dual ssds to have in raid 0, for very high speeds and more storage space than 1. i was going to get dual corsiar force 3 120gb, and put into raid 0, they are 170 each at my local supplier i know this will make me lose trim, so what do i have to do to maintain performance and how often does it have to be done? or is there another way i can get similar performance/storage for the same price? my other storage is triple 2tb in raid 5 thanks Share this post Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yes true but like it says this only applies if you put two disks of different sizes into a RAID 0 setup - because of the way it works (splits the data into two and puts one half into one drive and other half into the other drive) the maximum size of the array must be the size of the smallest drive in the array. ccokeman Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Since when is Microcenter an e-tailer? If you can swing it try the COrsair Performance Pro series that have a Marvell controller. They are great for RAID due to the excellent garbage collection algorithms used and do not need to use the TRIM command to stay in top condition. Just a thought! If you have mismatched sizes in raid-0, it will be the size of the smallest disk TIMES the number of drives in the array. So in your sources example, it would still be 200gb. In the example above you can actually split the 200gb drive into two partitions, and stripe the 3 100gb partitions to get a 300gb partition with 50% performance increase (if the drives are equally fast), but this is not a official raid mode, but possible with software.
