atY Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Hi !! Im im kinda new at OC CLUB,just signed up .But i`m a big fan of it..here i learned how to overclock things and saw many nice hardware reviews So the question is if I buy a brand new AMD SAPHIRE HD 6870 will it get bottlenecked by my old AMD Athlon x2 7750 B.E. at 3.05Ghz(windows 7 64bit index number is :6.5 ) ? At the moment i got a ga-m61pme-s2p rev.1.0 mobo (pretty bad..cant do voltage tweaks..i can only change the multiplier, and at 3.1ghz the pc boots, all fine but when i run prime95 after like 15-30 min the pc restarts, same till like 3,3ghz,and the temps dont rise above 50 degrees) 3GB of DDR2 RAM at 800mhz ( WIN 7 index :5.9) Nvidia Gainward 9500GT 1gb ddr2 video card (WIN 7 ultimate 64 bit index: aero:5.1 / 3D gamming :6.3) 500 WATT Delux PSU Right now i can play DIRT 3 at 1680x1050 vsync off AA 2X all settings at high/ultra ,only shadows low and i play it with an average of 20~fps Same with BFBC2 1680x1050 all high only shadows low, vsync off hbao on..same ~20 fps Crysis 2 here is a bit of a problem..1024x768 vsync on and advanced settings..same like 20-25fps Anyway so if I will buy the new 6870 card will my fps get better?I dont expect 100+ fps..i would just want to play crysis 2 at ultra settings 1680x1050 with dx11..or at least on high settings with 25-35 fps, same thing with the comming Battlefield 3 and MW3.. And will the 500 WATT Delux PSU will handle the 6870?I got like 2 extra 80mm fans,320gb HDD SATA 2 and 1 DVD-RW. I dont really got money to upgrade to a new CPU..i barely will get the money for the video card at Christmass,so i just want to know if its good to upgrade or stay with the current one. Black64 Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 On crysis 2, BF3 and MW3, I would say yes there would be a bottleneck. Other games that need more GPU then CPU then it would be less so. I would recommend a CPU upgrade first then a GPU upgrade. I think the PSU could handle it. But if you do buy, I would say your fps will improve. Tjj226_Angel Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 I agree, you should be upgrading your mobo or CPU before your video card. If you live next to a microcenter, you can get a AMD 1100T/mobo combo for 200 with tax. You might want to take a look at that before you go with your video card
