Gremlin Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 So have an EVGA X58 SLI 3 motherboard.. Everything is working fine for the past 3 weeks.. Winter in a way started early and my room has been cold and temperature was 21C when it is idle.. and when it is being used it goes to 35C.. Now all of a sudden it is running at 34 at idle.. Disabled/shutdown unnecessary programs and killed almost everything on task manager..and left it alone and still at 35... Ran and malware programs and nothing was found... Any ideas ???? sticknstone Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I would think that due to the cool operation of the pc it is not throttling down to prevent overheating. What is the cpu and frequency now?
Waco Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 (edited) How cold was your room? 21 C idle is crazy low unless your room temps are absolutely frigid. Are those your motherboard chipset temperatures or CPU temps? Edited November 9, 2011 by Waco
Gremlin Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I am using everest ultimate to see the temps... yes the room is cold ... CPU is not overclocked... it is the cpu temp...
Waco Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 What are the load temps? Are the fans spinning at the same speeds?
Gremlin Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 (edited) Room temp is now 72 F and the cpu right now with the stuff turned off and just the browser open with this page, evenest shows 34-37C Hard drives are idle. I might re install the os again I guess and see if it fixes it.. So here is something weird.. When the cpu temps were 21C and I play bf3 it would go to 44,,, but now when I play bf3,, it still goes to 44.. Is sensor on the board bad? airman Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Room temp is now 72 F Well there's your problem. 72F is roughly ~22C...
Gremlin Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Well there's your problem. 72F is roughly ~22C... Hmm i am sorry i am not understanding.. Temp in the room during winter is 69F to 72 F and the room is cold.. When it was working cpu temp was 22-23 degrees celsius..(which is approx 72 degrees F) Now it stays at 34 degrees celsius idle and even at night when the room gets cold and room temp gets down to 62, cpu is still at 34..so tell me how is the room temp is at fault

When it was working cpu temp was 22-23 degrees celsius..(which is approx 72 degrees F) Unless your running custom water with a very large res, your idle temps will be 10-15c (on average) above ambient. If it's stating your running AT ambient when idle, it's wrong. Idle temps are more often than not wrong, BTW. As already stated by Waco, check your LOAD temps, that's all you really need to be concerned with.
airman Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Yes. You'll never achieve ambient CPU temperatures unless you have an infinitely large water cooling loop or an infinitely large and 100% efficient heatsink.

Gremlin Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 (edited) So how does one check load temps? Yes a noob question.. Thank you Edited November 10, 2011 by Gremlin
