vyroburn Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Hey guys, I woke up to a dead mobo this morning =( (so very very sad). I have been using older hardware for a while now and I thought I may seize the opportunity to grab a better rig. My old specs were as follows: m3n72-D AM2-6000+ 6gigs radeon HD-5750 and dual 500gig sata-2 in raid 0 I was just wanting some opinions on some mid range mobo / cpu combo's. I think i will stick with my current video card. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
SpikeSoprano Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 You should probably stay with your hard drives also, at least until the price comes back down on them, most of them are double the price or more right now.

ThInK192 Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Sounds like you will need 2 new parts possibly 4. Motherboard and CPU should be upgraded. DO NOT try to re use mobo or cpu. They could fry new parts. If your memory is DDR3 you shoudn't need to upgrade. Check PSU specs. to ensure you can power a upgraded mobo and cpu. Todays PC can get by with 500w, but I wouldn't overclock. You might be looking at $300 in new parts. Depending on whats needed. If he says the mobo is dead, he has most probably tested the other components and confirmed they are working. Judging by your reasoning, if a PSU turns bad, one should throw away the entire PC because the PSU might possibly have damaged any component. Also, a 6000+ uses DDR2 so no need to talk about keeping DDR3 sticks. Finally, with an HD5750, 500W of power is plenty enough to power even a rig with a good overclock. (Assuming a decent quality PSU). @ Vyro: If you can find a cheap AM2+ motherboard, you could just call it a day. You could also throw a PII in if you want something more powerful, yet still keeping your RAM. Although seeing how DDR3 is cheap nowadays, switching to it won't break the bank
