shiver_8 Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Looking for a quad, preferably a Q6600 or Q9xxx. Let me know if you have anything, thanks
Locutus Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 (edited) Why 775? A sandy bridge dual-core performs at about the same level as the Q6600. An i3-2100 will stomp on a Q6600 at stock settings, and you don't have to pay much more to get a better CPU with overclocking capabilities. Not to mention the fact that you're going to be buying a new CPU for about the same price you'd put into an old one. And DDR3 is wayyyy cheaper than DDR2 by this point in time. I'm assuming they already have the entire system and just want an upgrade.
shiver_8 Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I'm assuming they already have the entire system and just want an upgrade. I have a 775 platform. If it wasn't so expensive to upgrade to an i7 platform I would do it. I just want something under $100 that will give me better multi tasking performance. A 4.5 GHz e8400 is gonna be hard to beat.

He'd probably want to at least get a core i3 2100 or better, and maybe even go for one of the K series processors if he wants to get more than default performance. dr_bowtie Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 hey you still looking for a CPU....I have a Q6700 and access to a Q9450 maybe...hit me up via PM if you are..
OrangeJuice Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Honestly I'd just save up the money, bite the bullet and get an i5 setup. With an 8400 you pretty much already hit a dead end with the 775 platform.
playah Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 There are a couple i3-2100/MSI H61M-P23-B3 combos over on [H] for 130-135.00 shipped, faster than a 775 Quad for gaming probably and DDR3 is cheap enough, offset by what you could get out of your other parts now is the best time because the value of those parts isn't going up, I'd be interested in the GA-EP45-UD3P possibly
