rmb938 Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 It was good if you think of a touch OS. If you don't have it installed on a touch screen computer it is a pain to use.
Black64 Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 (edited) I think I will stay with windows 7 until windows 9 comes out. I don't like the touch interface at all. It kinda seems like another vista to me. Edited October 28, 2011 by Black6464

It kinda seems like another vista to me. Windows 9 will be touch as well. Thats MIcrosofts new direction. To create a touch based OS that works across all platforms. This is just a developer preview (alpha release at best) so its missing a lot and the usuability is a little difficult. Hopefully they will have an option for the older interface to be optionally available when the final version is released fro those who dont have touch screens. JeffHarris Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 So my thoughts after installing Windows 8 on a Desktop PC with a Phenom X4 2GB ram and Nvdia 7025/630a graphics. First off the new UI Metro is awful on a PC with a mouse/keyboard. Its not intuitive at all and really requires a touch screen or a tablet/smartphone. So I wonder if Microsoft will try to give a boost to the PC industry by nudging users to buy Touchscreen PC's? Or will they have a better default for traditional users? I was able to finally navigate away from the Metro screen to a more traditional desktop theme. But alas its not a whole lot better so far. Knowing this is a developer version. I was not expecting RC quality and I was not disappointed. I was able to use Internet Explorer 10 with Flash downloaded from Adobe. But adding other programs is still a mystery so far. I went to Google and could not download Chrome as I have before. I was also amazed at how poorly the Windows UI improvements were. The scroll bar shrunk in Apple's Lion and seems to have become wider in IE 10?? The other issue is when using the Metro UI with IE your at Full screen all the time! I mean Full screen, no task bar no nothing. Just Web page. As I said before it was not easy figuring out how to navigate with Metro. After a day trying out Windows 8 I would say Tablets will be happy with what Microsoft has done. The rest who like the traditional user interface of Windows will be sadly disappointed. Oh its still there when you dig for it. But the having to dig for it that's the problem. Unless Microsoft can give users a better set of options for Metro. I think Windows 8 will be a dud on the PC. F13Bubba Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 *The following fake conversation is a complete dramatization of a conversation that could totally have actually happened.* "Hey guys, I have a great idea. Let's take everything that was great about Windows 7, throw it away, and start from scratch. Oh, and we should totally make the OS revolve around a touch screen interface, even though touchscreens for desktops have a ridiculously low market saturation, and are extremely cost-prohibitive...... Yeah, that should work."
VaporX Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Considering that Microsoft has really limited pentration on the smart phone or tablet market I am really supriused at this move. I understand what they are shooting for with a single interface adn this might benefit us all with a slimmer OS. I tried this out and for an Alpha I thought it was remarkably stable. However the interface felt way to kiddish for me.
beeiilll Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 (edited) I'm thinking that as long as I can keep my versions of XP running on the folders and this version of 7 running on my sig rig, then I will just wait till Windose 27.615399Z comes out and take another look at upgrading again! Just saying. Edited November 25, 2011 by beeiilll
